Following a confiscation of Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles (TFT) seizure in Da Nang City, center Vietnam last week, the ATP and TCC team have been making the rescue them to TCC. 25 turtles of 3 species including: 13 Bourret's box turtle (Cuora bourreti), 8 Southern Vietnamese box turtle (Cuora picturata), 4 Keeled box turtle (Cuora mouhotii) were handing to TCC. Unfortunately, one Bourret's box turtle (Cuora bourreti) was dead before the rescuing.

This rescue trip, 6 turtles belong to 3 species including 1 Chinese stripe-necked turtle (Mauremys sinensis), 1 Eastern black-bridged leaf turtle (Cyclemys pulchristriata), 4 Cyclemys oldhami (Cyclemys oldhamii) were also handing to TCC. All of them were handing to Da Nang FPD by local people with encouraging of TCC staff. All of these turtles have safely arrived to Cuc Phuong on last Saturday.

Normally, they will undergo 3-month quarantine where our staff will help the animals recover and rehabilitate them, unfortunately many of them have shell rot and haven’t eating yet then they might be in there over 3 months. At the moment, our quarantine is overload with many turtles need help in a small area of quarantine. We are looking to open quarantine area to increasing our rescue capacity in future.
